Noah Schnapp Reveals Will’s Biggest Stranger Things 5 Moment Was “A Total Dream Come True”
Jordan Whitmore 2025-11-27
At the end of Episode 4 of Stranger Things Season 5, there is a massive twist that is so surprising that you can`t look away from the screen as the credits roll.
Will Byers really does have powers.
When Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) attacks the gang, Will (Noah Schnapp) suddenly stands up. He takes charge of the Demogorgons and even gets into Vecna`s mind, freeing his allies from the villain`s lethal grip. Will has a strong moment, especially since he has been known as the boy who went missing on November 6, 1983, for four seasons. When the first four episodes of Season 5 came out on November 26, and the selection of the Stranger Things S05 cast is matchless. Fans were shocked to learn this game-changing reality.
Schnapp was so impressed that he sent a long message to the show`s writers, Matt and Ross Duffer, the day after filming the scene to praise them for Will`s arc this season. He said to them, "You have no idea how much I appreciate this show and this character." The way you wrote Will in the last season is more than I could have expected.
The Duffer brothers had planned Will`s story from the beginning, and they always knew he would be the one to end Vecna`s tyranny.

Ross Duffer says, "We always knew Will had a strong connection to Vecna and the Upside Down." "We looked into it a little in Season 2, but one of our first ideas for the current season was, `What if Will could really control this link and utilise it against the bad guys? It also felt right to bring the story back to Will. It made natural for the plot to come full circle because he was the one who was taken in Season 1. Will has to be the one who can stop Vecna.
Matt Duffer said, "We wanted to focus on how Will`s powers grow and what that means for who he is." He has been through a lot in the first four seasons, including feelings, problems, and questions that haven`t been solved. We wanted to show him how he changed as a person and finally became who he really is. And when he gets to that point, he will finally be able to control these amazing powers.
Winona Ryder, who plays Will`s mum Joyce Byers, was very moved by her son`s big moment. "I recall the part where I encourage him to go after Vecna and decide to trust him. Ryder recalls, "At first, I thought there was no way I would let him do something so dangerous." "But then it made sense—Joyce knows that he`s strong and smart enough to handle it. That scene had a big impact on their relationship.

Ryder goes on to say, "Noah blew me away this season." "He had a lot to do, and wow, it was beautiful work." It was amazing to see.
The first four episodes of Stranger Things 5 show Will`s increasing friendship with Robin (Maya Hawke) as well as his rising talents. She trusts him enough to tell him things that are really private and that he will remember. Robin tells Will about Tammy, a girl she used to like, but eventually realises that she was looking for answers in someone else when she already had them.
Hawke adds, "If I did well in that scene at all, it was because of Noah." "He was so focused and open with his feelings that I had a lot to react to." I automatically do what Robin does with Will in real life with Noah. His character really comes into his own this season, which helps Robin feel less alone and like she actually matters.
Schnapp talks about how he got ready to film the brutal fight with Vecna, why his relationship with Hawke was so important, and how some portions of Will`s path have been similar to his own.

Where Is Will Kicking Off Stranger Things 5?
Noah Schnapp Will is back in Hawkins this season. We are now watching how things change with his return since he was gone for the last season. We get right into the action from the opening, which is different from how prior seasons started. Everyone is together in one place, working toward the same goal.
Why Will’s Storyline in Season 5 Has Fans Hyped
Schnapp: I`m really looking forward to seeing Will become more sure of himself and learn more about who he really is. This season illustrates how deep his character is, not simply that he was kidnapped. I`m looking forward to seeing him figure out who he is, make friends, and learn more about his connection to the Upside Down.
Will’s Superhero Moment in Episode 4: What Did It Mean to You?
Schnapp: "It was like a dream." The day after we filmed that scene, I sent the Duffers a long text message thanking them for the show and for letting me play Will. I never would have thought of writing his character like they did for the last season. That scene was one of the best things that happened to me this year. That moment is like reaching the top of the mountain for Will.

Behind the Scene: Preparing for the Vecna Mind Scene
Schnapp: To be honest, it was incredibly scary since I`ve never met Vecna in person, which is strange given our personalities are so similar and connected. Being on set and looking him in the eye made me nervous, but that fear helped me do a good job. It seemed real because it wasn`t CGI; a lot of it was Jamie Campbell Bower in full costume and hours of makeup. He is a great actor and it was great to work with him. I also think it`s amazing how everything fits together between Will and Vecna.
The Important Role of Will and Robin’s Connection in Season 5
Schnapp: I`ve long liked Maya Hawke, who portrays Robin, and I really wanted to work with her. I used to watch her in earlier seasons and think, "Wow, she`s interesting." I like what she does. I hope I get to see her again sometime. But I never truly got to know her until this season. I got pretty delighted when I viewed the scripts and saw that Robin and I were in them a lot throughout four or five episodes. I learned so much from working with her, and she felt like an elder sister to me. It was amazing since the way we acted together on television was similar to how we acted together in real life. She was like a mentor to me, and I think it was really essential for Will to meet Robin. Seeing someone who was sure of herself and sharing her wisdom helped him start to find his own way.

Tracing Will’s Journey: How Far Has He Come Since Season 1?
Schnapp: Will used to be very shy and kept to himself. He didn’t want to share his feelings and often felt like he didn’t fit in because he was different. Over time, after feeling left out and taking a bit longer to grow up, he realizes that his uniqueness is actually his strength. One of the main ideas of our show is that what makes each person special and beautiful are the things that make them different. When Will finally thinks, “I accept myself and love what makes me unique,” he truly starts to shine. The first four episodes of Stranger Things Season 5 are now available on Netflix, with three more dropping on Christmas Day and the finale on New Year’s Eve.
